A legendary weapon back from Diablo1 (where it was the only bow with Knockback), Windforce is the best ranged weapon in the game, period : although some people may argue and have personal preferences, the incredible power of Windforce (WF) cannot be denied. To put it simply, this bow both features an extreme amount of firepower, backed up by some nice additional mods. At first, the extreme rarity of Windforce made it a very special weapon, symbol of wealth and sheer luck. Of course, the recent duping waves made it an usual weapon, often seen in Realms games.

The requirements on Hydrah bows are very steep, especially the heavy 134 Strength, which will either impact a bowazon on her Dexterity (which would be a shame, since a high Dexterity makes WF damage skyrocket), or on her already often low Vitality (which can be counteracted with Vita charms). The required level puts WF as an end-game weapon, but so does its damage. ;)

Speed : as a base 10 weapon, WF is not a speedazon weapon. It is possible in theory to bring it to 8/2 firing speed (8 frames between normal attacks, 2 between successive Strafe arrows), but it requires extremely good gear, and probably sacrifices too much survival. 9/2 or 9/3, depending on wether you use Strafe or not, are definitely worth a try with this weapon, though.

Damage : WF is one of the most damaging weapons in the game, and is the king of ranged weapons. In addition to a more than comfortable 250%ED (mid-Cruel range), it also has very high scaling maximum damage. If you consider an amazon with 400Dex and Clvl80, you end with a comfortable 2440 maximum damage on your normal attack. This is without taking into account a might merc, critical strike, or any damage enhancing skill (Guided Arrow, Strafe...). It's not unusual for well-built Windforce-amazons to end in the 6000 max damage territory, which is scary considering we are talking about ranged damage.

Other goodies : the knockback ability is one of the most sought-after crowd control modifiers for ranged fighters (it tends to irritate melee fighters, though), as it works on all monsters. On the positive side, having this modifier included in the bow frees an equipment slot (crafted hitpower gloves). The mana leech (6 to 8%) should be enough to cover expensive skills, considering the firepower packed in Windforce).

The last mods are plain stupid : I don't really understand heal stamina 30%, except that a WF zon is likely to forget about Vitality (stamina) and pump Dex instead. The +5 to Dex doesn't add much, considering it is a Clvl73 weapon. And the +10 to Str is a slap in the face : Windforce is likely to be the heaviest item worn, so the +10 to Str is simply a wasted modifier.

Windforce is not without weaknesses, however : its minimum damage is quite low, and it doesn't have any AR bonus, meaning a stroke of bad luck (no hits, or hits with low damage) can make a Forcezon hit the dust quickly. Don't worry, though, when you see it happen, it was probably sheer incompetence. ;-)

Trade value : kind of strange. You may as well believe all Windforces on Battle.net are duped. An unidentified WF is very expensive (the trader will usually ask for a full screen of unidentified elite items), but those can be duped too. An identified WF is much less expensive, but you run the risk of seeing it disappear anyday. Now, if you are trading your Windforce, you can basically ask for anything. If you have one for trade now, I'd highly suggest keeping it until Blizzard comes up with a reasonable solution to the dupe problem.

Socketing ideas : Shael is a obvious choice, as more speed equals more damage over time. Ohm and 40%ED jewels are of course another option, but since most of the damage comes from the scaling max damage modifier, such socketing options probably aren't the best bang for your buck. Of course, a 40%ED/15%IAS jewel (Ruby Jewel of Fervor) combines the best of both worlds. Amn is another interesting idea, freeing equipment slots for life leech, but life leech is not likely to be a concern with Windforce (6-7% of lifeleech, on a ring or circlet is already enough considering the massive damage). Another truly good option would be a Jah rune, for the Ignores Target Defense property, eliminating one of the two weak points : lack of Attack Rating.

       在成功杀死美尼亚狮子以后，国王叫赫拉克勒斯去杀死亚尔果斯平远上一个沼泽地里的 “九头蛇怪”——Hydra(希德拉)。它非常厉害，一共有九个头，而且当中那个是不死的。赫拉克勒斯乘坐着他的侄子——“约拉斯”驾驶的马车来到了沼泽边上。他用他的弓箭去射杀那蛇，但是蛇根本不怕弓箭，于是赫拉克勒斯又使用一把刀来砍蛇，把它的脑袋一个一个砍下来。 Hydra是相当厉害的，赫拉克勒斯每砍去一个头，它就又长出来一个

       天后赫拉看到了，于是就放出一只螃蟹来帮助九头蛇，赫拉克勒斯的腿被螃蟹夹住了，眼看就要有危险，但是他的侄子也拿着刀过来了，很快就把螃蟹给解决掉了。不过对九头蛇依然没有办法

       突然，赫拉克勒斯想出了一个好点子，他找来木柴，和他侄子一起点起了火。每砍去一个蛇头，他就用火烧那个地方，那些头就再也无法长出来了。就这样，赫拉克勒斯杀死了九头蛇怪，完成了12项英雄壮举的第2项。之后，他用Hydra 的蛇胆涂抹在自己的弓箭上，因此只要受了箭伤，性命就难保了。

       宙斯为了纪念这个壮举，把九头蛇和螃蟹都化为了星座，就是现在的 巨蟹座和长蛇座。赫拉克勒斯也因为自己的伟大壮举而流芳千古。

       暗黑中引用了这个故事， 用赫拉克勒斯涂抹过 Hydra 蛇胆的弓，创作了九头蛇弓，配以“风之力”的名字，表示借助风的力量，将毒箭发射出去，威力可以想象。用赫拉克勒斯砍蛇头的刀，创作了九头蛇刃（虽然没有暗金版本，呵呵）。还借用这一典故，创作了女巫九头火蛇这一个终极招术，借九头蛇不死之力杀敌。可见，暴雪的想法是多么的精妙呀。
